An interesting idea poorly executed.

to make it to the showing of weapon at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival I had to leave the post - movie Q&A forBlack Snake Moanearly . The only reason I ’m not entirely pissed with myself for doing that is that the curt film preceding the master feature film , A Nick in Timeby Be ' Garrett was outstanding .

When I read the description for director / screenwriter Adam Bhala Lough’sWeapons , I had a tactile sensation it might not be up my alley but I calculate I ’d give it a shooter anyway . In the remnant I should have passed on it , and many people I spoke to after the exhibit had the same , if not stronger legal opinion to the negative as well . It ’s never a just sign when people start leave in drove before the Director Q&A session …

Weaponsis yet another picture show that start with the ending . coincidently , The Good Lifewhich starred Mark Webber , who is also in this film also started the same way . Sometimes it work , sometimes it does n’t . Once the movie was through it became obvious why it was done that way , but that does n’t exactly mean that it worked well . The opening move shot with it ’s loaf , sluggish photographic camera shot is indicative of more of the same to amount . It starts quite literally with a bang that is not for the feint hearted .

The cinema then go to Sean ( play by the up and coming Mark Webber ) and his friends Jason and Chris . Chris render to shoot everything ( " I ’m making a movie . " ) and is what I would call a life-threatening oddball . Dorky , ca n’t get a girl , and drive around with a scattergun in back of his car in case he " want to shoot someone " . Jason is cocky and a problematic guy cable , while Sean is just back from college , although he ’s easily sucked back into his friends ' dead conclusion life style .

The main storey involve Reggie ( played by Nick Cannon ) becoming ghost with tracking down and killing the man who raped and beat on his younger babe Sabrina ( play by Regine Nehy ) . Due to the start of the celluloid , we already jazz what will happen to him and for me , that ruined the movie quite a turn . Reggie , who does not seem to be a gangster - type , surprises us with his attitude and commitment in find a gun and setting out with his admirer to pour down the rapist ASAP . He go to his friends Mikey and younger James ( who is hypothecate to be Sabrina ’s boyfriend ) to involve their help .

Sabrina says that Jason is the one who did it to her and that is Reggie ’s objective . He and his friends go find Mikey ’s uncle who has apparently smoked one too many joints and is very foreign . Despite this he tries to talk them out of what they ’re going to do and they answer by exhaust the heck out of him .

Sidious, Tyranus, Maul, and Vader.

About the best thing in the movie actually happens here , when the uncle has Reggie immobilise against the wall and require him about the race murder in Rwanda , to which Reggie replies " Who ’s Rwanda ? "

Weaponswas the first flick I saw at Sundance that had an " indie " experience to it - grainy film , hand held camera , and wierd things that I reckon were supposed to be " artistic " but precipitate savourless . For one affair Lough did the old " watch events from different point of sight " thing , but all that did was make me feel like I had to sit through a tough motion picture three times rather of just one . Then he had this drug abuse of holding a stroke on a face or setting where nothing was fall out right smart too long . It almost felt as if in a few scene he just forgot to say " cut ! " Finally , in the middle of the film he introduce this unearthly , freeze frame collage of the chief and supporting characters .

I really did want to give this a chance and for about the first 15 or 20 minutes although I did n’t recall it was slap-up , I think it was okay and moving in an interesting direction . unluckily it really fell asunder as it cause further along . The style of the film actually reminded me of the controversial movieKidsby director Larry Clarke , which although it was more about teen sex than violence and was consider exploitative , really got the degree of the nothing to lose , dead end lives of it ’s theatrical role than this film managed to do .
