Timeline
Don’t waste your time on this pitiful excuse for a time travel movie that is terrible in every way: acting, dialogue, music, and plot.
If at some point over the last few days you ’ve done something that you might be feel guilty about … something especially mean and nasty …. bad enough that you sense you merit to be punished in some way …
Then I highly recommend you rentTimelineand force yourself to sit through the entire matter .
I read the book by Michael Crichton when it first came out and actually enjoyed it quite a bit since I ’m a huge fan of sentence travelling story . The one stray thought I had as I take the book , and I remember this quite clearly , was that I matt-up like I was read a story that was not written as a novel , but written as a novelisation of a moving picture . For some cause it just felt like he wrote this specifically for the big screen . unluckily , if that was his spirit , it has been sadly served by this turkey .
The premise is that a Bill Gates kind of guy has tried to create a matter transporter ( " which will put Fed - Ex out of business " ) but alternatively has inadvertantly create a time machine . They have no ascendency over the time or place , which due to some random wormhole , has made the only potential name and address 14th C France . People go back , get snare , must be rescue , yadda yadda yadda .
An archaelogist ( Billy Connolly , completelywasted here ) has been getting selective information from this Bill Gates character pertain a specific dig site . Information so detailed that ol' Billy distrust there ’s something funny going on and heads to the laboratory to look into . Meanwhile Connolly ’s son ( Paul Walker , who is … well , I ’ll get to that later ) who is completely uninterested in thing archaeologic happens to be visiting . Walker is infatuated with a young digger ( Frances O’Connor ) to the dot of distraction .
So . Dad disappears , son gets all fired up , and the whole archaeological team is invited to go to the secret lab . BTW , for some grounds at this dig site , a physicist is part of the team . No , I do n’t know why either .
They must go back , find dad , and make for him back . Now considering the character of the guy rope in charge of the caller , I ’m not really clear as to why this was so imperative to him , unless this multi - billionare ( one assumes ) was cowed by one phone call by Walker .
It was obvious this moving-picture show was a stinker from the first 5 minutes , I jolly you not . Richard Donner directed this , and I have to say the man is hit or miss as far as the movies he ’s made . I wanted to charge this movie on the redaction , but that ’s just one of the many things wrong here . The redaction , especially during the first 15 second or so was so jerky that I was n’t really clear on what was going on . The movie cuts between present daytime ( in the laboratory ) and the 14th 100 , and when it does it ’s just unembellished jarring .
The dialogue is awful , specially as delivered by Paul Walker . How in the heck he was chosen for this film , and why he ’s even given star charge when he ’s on projection screen so little time is beyond me . I proceed waiting for this to reverse into one of those low - brow teen comedies … that ’s what Walker fetch to this movie . I mean whowrotethis affair ? ( Here ’s a regretful portent forOcean ’s 12 : one of the co - author ofTimelinewrote the screenplay for the approaching presumed megahit . )
Timeline is a science fiction film directed by Richard Donner, based on Michael Crichton’s novel. The story follows a group of archaeology students who use a time-travel device to rescue their professor in 14th-century France. Led by Gerard Butler, Paul Walker, and Frances O’Connor, the team becomes embroiled in medieval warfare and must navigate the dangers of their new environment to return safely to the present.
The crowd has less than 6 hours to find and recover Connolly , they ’re enamor , go through all kinds of trials , and Walker ’s part ’s principal obsession ison the female child . What happened to the heirarchy of " life in danger , sex can wait " ? Man ….
The euphony was lame , which made what were suppose to be exciting scenes light flat . Never have I been so bored by turgid graduated table battles . Never . Did I mention this was boring ?
What else … an ex - maritime act like a self - serving wuss , the other x - marines convey to protect the poor defenceless travelers are done in within minutes of arrival , people who are historians let their notion and ego - saving overturn the possibility of all have it away up the timeline , etc .
The plot of land yap are really just too legion to mention . They die hard the gamut from coincidences beyond opinion , down to the last second timing , and here is one of my favorites : They all wear a tiny pendent on a necklace which is theironly method acting of have back . Now I ask you , if you had something which your life depended upon , would you wear down this on the exterior of all your article of clothing or would you tuck it under everything and have it hanging against your chest ? Of course ! You ’d outwear it on the exterior where it could be recede , stolen , seize from your neck , or whatever .
It hurt my head to even write this recapitulation because it means I have to think about the movie again .
You have been warned .
