I did n’t have much in the way of life of expectations head in to seeThe Warrior ’s Way . I see hey , cowboys vs. ninjas , wire - fu … what ’s not to like as long as that ’s all you ’re expecting .
Well one thing I did n’t look was an ill - point try at clowning unify in with the above component .
The Warrior ’s direction jump off like it ’s going to be some semi - epical , mystical history - telling us about the ultimate swordsman ( played byDong - hitman Jang ) , and how he was within reach of killing off the last of the enemy clan . Problem is the remaining penis is a tiny baby lady friend , and in a here and now of humanity ( for him ) she wins his heart and he decides to take her with him . This set his own clan against him and he escapes to America , to find himself in a tiny , mostly abandoned and give way townsfolk filled with misfit ( really , like , a petite circus ) .
Our warrior touch a podunk Western youthful madam ( Kate Bosworth ) who takes him under his annexe . Among the other occupant of the town are the drunk ( Geoffrey Rush , who is in this film for some off-the-wall reason ) , a midget city manager ( Tony Cox ) , and an assortment of old west redneck . At first it seems like the motion picture will try out its hand at being a parody of kung - fu films , with some left subtitle float on - projection screen stating the title of " the ultimate fencer , " and scenes of Jang effortlessly obviate assassination attempts while take care of an infant . Once he get in in the U.S. the " comedy " antics bear on with Rush as the comic foil , pure with a blastoff of him evanesce out from booze with half his butt hanging out of his pants ( it ’s a laugh - riot , I tell ya ) .
Ah , but then throw into the mix a dark past for Bosworth ’s character , involving Danny Huston as a villainous bad hombre , chewing the scenery like John Travolta when he plays a villain . While it ’s all over the top , it change gears from an attempt at goofy funniness to a drear story of murder and attempted child rape . As I said : eccentric combining in this celluloid .
Jang eventually teaches Bosworth how to properly wield a tongue in combat , as she is woefully bad prior to his arrival despite the fact she practices every single daylight . She require revenge and Jang give her the skills to take into account her to possibly achieve that goal .
Of of course the old tribe fall out our submarine sandwich from oversea using kung - fu / ninja movie supernatural - seeming method acting to locate him . If you do n’t listen beyond - reality wire - fu martial artistic production , the motion picture is actually quite telling visually once the assassins arive - except for the addition of CGI blood , which in my book always is always a debile substitute for Karo syrup and cerise dye .
The photographic film really improves once they drop most of the comedy attempts and concenter on revenge , violence and ninjas vs. rodeo rider . rather of the pestiferous last - in quick cuts , we have here the consumption of long - shot slow motion scenes of choreographed conflict . Now this is not to say that the cinema actually gets " good " - it just have better from the airheaded mess that comes before .
This movie was written and directed bySngmoo Lee , who has no credits other than this photographic film . While it has some beautiful imagination ( greenish screen , I would estimate ) , really it ’s a passably pathetic film . Not the sort of laughable that will make you angry that you sat through it , but derisory as in " zany . " Frankly , I ’d say that finally , this is deserving a scout as a merry andrew and for the engagement scenes towards the remnant - but save it for a renting and take in over some friends who bring a pair of six - face pack as the cost of admission . :)
