The Raid: Redemption

If you are an action movie fan, you will walk out of this film on an adrenaline high.

In theThe Raid : Redemption , highly - trail cop Rama ( martial liberal arts star Iko Uwais ) leaves his significant married woman at home and embarks on his first foreign mission with a squad of elect copper . Their chore ? Infiltrate the slum stronghold of the ruthless Boss Tama ( Ray Sahetapy ) , and bring in the gangster to justness . The trouble ? The apartment complex the cop are invading is occupied by tenants who stray from assassinator to thugs to certified psychopaths - and all the other scum the slum area have to proffer .

The cops scarcely make it through the door before they ’re spotted by the outlaw , and from there it is an all - out warfare , floor by floor , as Rama and his teammates endeavor to endure a incubus of violence and demolition in Holy Order to make their check .

The foray : Redemptionhas been hyped as one of the most thrilling and gratifying natural action movies to come along in the last 10 or so , and this is one of the rare occasions where the hype is actually well merit . Put simply : this film is awesome . It is easily my favored action movie of the last few years - and one I might rank as my # 2 favourite behindDie Hard(blaspheme ! I have it off ) . In my opinion , it ’s justthatgood .

The cinema is a Cartesian product of Welsh director Gareth Evans ( who also wrote the handwriting ) and warlike humanistic discipline stuntmen / actor from the Indonesian moving-picture show industry . ( For those wondering , the film is in Indonesian dialect with English subtitles.)The Raidis also a fantastic case for the Indonesian soldierly arts manner of " Pencak Silat , " which makes the " conducting wire - fu " antics of other Asian activity films look like child ’s play . The fight choreography was designed by stars Iko Uwais ( Rama ) and Yayan Ruhian ( who play the villain " demented Dog " ) , and I do not hyperbolise when I say that there are certain sequences that will have you dropping your jaw or squealing in upheaval about what you ’ve just seen .

away from the adrenaline - inducing fight stage dancing , The Raidhas some of the most telling camerawork seen in an activity pic . Instead of conflict sequences viewed at medium distance - or bad ,   indiscernibly   filmed in " shaky - cam " style - Evans and his camera crew include the cameraas partof the engagement stage dancing . During a fight succession ( of which there are many ) , the camera dances around combatants in perfect synch with their motility and blows - even going so far as to circle around doorways and walls ( should someone kicked kick through one ) or dropping down through floor ( as combatants move to unlike plane by jump down stairwell or holes ) .

This kinetic , cautiously choreographed camerawork is also effective in scene of straight - up gunplay , offer us distinct setups ( bad guy wire hiding on a flooring above , ready to lie in wait pig on the level below ) , which make outstanding latent hostility and keep the action mechanism readable , structured and lucid at all meter . That this all occurs within the confines of a building ( and on a shoestring budget ) make the technical expression of the cinema even more impressive . The film recently pay off an elevate soundtrack from Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda , and the throb electronica music fits absolutely with the activity .

In a stroke of further brilliance , Evans also borrows many tropes of the ' survival repugnance ' zep - genre . The film effectively use a lineup of caudex characters to be ( often gruesomely ) dispatched , as well as bad guys that could touch some of the more direful and frightening slasher film killers of the last 20 years . When you see characters like the savage " harebrained Dog " ( Yayan Ruhian ) , criminal brain " Andi " ( Doni Alamsyah ) , or ' the machete gang , ' you ’ll realise these slasher movie comparisons .

Evans also uses some peachy tension moments lift right out of the horror genre : for example , case obscure from pursuers while jagged blades are being scrap along walls just around the niche , or shots of killers standing over a hiding protagonist who is render not to breathe , lest he be mow down .   The chemical element of the horror genre incorporated into this activity photographic film ultimately make delicious latent hostility , and make the actual action moments much more cathartic and thrill to check .

With a few exceptions , the characters in the picture are passably sparse and unimaginative - but really that ’s par for the course of instruction if you calculate at any repulsion flick . The main players are fleshed out nicely ( namely , Rama and a few of the villain ) and there are even some decent twists on certain theatrical role that refuse your initial expectations . The performances do n’t require all that much range ( it ’s mostly strong-arm acting ) , but the main part are handled well by their respective performers . While the theatrical role facial expression of the script is just okay , by the end of the film Evans does succeed in creating a turgid mythos that will place the level for an interesting and exciting subsequence ( which is currently in the works , BTW ) .

The Raid Redemption starring Iko Uwais (Review)

In the slums of Jakarta, Indonesia, a squad of elite law enforcement officers are tasked with infiltrating a high-rise apartment building, to bring in the dangerous drug lord that runs the place.

If I had to point out flaws , they would be matter like some of the broken - budget effects ( CGI origin ) or the aforesaid thinly - drawn stand characters . However , these complaints are mere nitpicks ( deserving no more than half a star ) - and when compared to the overall gumption of delectation and kick thatThe Raidoffers , these nitpicks do n’t even characterize . If you are an activeness picture rooter , you will take the air out of this plastic film on an adrenaline high .

The Raid : Redemptionopens in U.S. dramatics on March 23 , 2012 . It is   rate gas constant for strong brutal bloody fierceness throughout , and language .
