The Hangover Part II

Screen Rant ’s Vic Holtreman reviewsHangover II

Ah , comedy sequels … after a very successful and risible first film , the question is whetherThe Hangover Part IIis as comic asthe original(to which we gave 4 out 5 stars ) . I ’ll just cut to the Salmon P. Chase and respond that : No , it ’s not , and that ’s too bad because I was face frontwards to this one .

The original moving-picture show had an interesting assumption and a roll that made up for a funny combination of personality . We had Bradley Cooper as Phil -   roguishly   bounteous but foul mouthed , ego - necessitate and moderately much a jerk of a fellow ; Ed Helms as Stu - not so handsome and more of a " regular guy " who probably hung out with Phil because he ’s a " fun guy " ; and Alan , encounter by Zack Galifianakis - the sternly socially handicapped , and apparently more than slightly mentally handicapped member of the group .

The Hangover Part II Movie Poster

The plot here is pretty much identical to that of the first celluloid : A bachelor party ends up move awfully awry when our band of buddies is drugged by one of their own . I really gave recognition to the motion picture when right on from the start it delivers a shot of Phil on the phone with his married woman saying"it happened again . “Great , let ’s not trip the light fantastic toe around the issue - just call it what it is : a duplication of the first pic just set in a unlike location .

This time instead of Las Vegas , they ’re in Thailand - Stu is getting married to a young Thai woman who is ridiculously too gorgeous for him . Her father is not shy about establish his patronage and dislike for Stu , a situation which is decide in a very poor way at the end of the film . The fiancee ( Jamie Chung ) has a younger brother named Teddy ( Mason Lee ) who is a unimaginative Asian prodigy : He ’s lead for Stanford at age 16 for a medical degree , and is a virtuoso cello player . Alan takes a disfavor to Teddy , since Stu need him to be a part of their group since he ’s , you know , his fiancee ’s pal and all .

This disfavor is the accelerator for what was supposed to be one beer a couple of night before the wedding wrick into 24 hours of memory loss and havoc . In the first picture show it was Alan ’s pal who was missing and the source of their frenetic quest - this meter it ’s Teddy . Along the way they run into Russian gangsters , Paul Giamatti ( always a pleasure to watch on screen ) as another bad hombre ,   transsexual   go - go dancers , and Ken Jeong as Mr. Chow , the helium - voiced mobster from the first flick .

The cast of Hangover 2 (review)

While in the first film I consider Galifianakis steal the movie , here his graphic symbol was mostly irritating - while he was clueless and dim - witted in the first film , he had an endearing tone about him . Here , for   some cause , they write him as a completely objectionable jerk , and it take away from the character quite a bit . Ed Helms ' theatrics seemed like they were meant to make Stu the " steal the movie " character , but it was so over the top it actually felt kind of " ego - cognisant "   - as if he was screaming"look at me , is n’t this EXTREME ! ? "

While Todd Phillips directed both films , the sequel was not write by the same folks who write the first one . The original motion picture was pretty crude in its bodily fluid , with some unexpected and uttermost bit , and it seems like in this film they felt like they needed to push the   boundaries   even further . Only it did n’t make the motion-picture show any funnier , it just made it more crass . And while in conception , the finish where Stu finally digest up to his bride-to-be ’s father is coherent and prepare sense , the item of how they go away about doing this and what Stu ’s speech entailed was ridiculous .

Were there some laughs ? Sure , but unless you think that penis are really LOL amusing you might not express mirth very much . Then again , a twain of beer prior to see this might make it funnier .
