Screen Rant : Hi Mary , so nice to talk to you again . Pinewood Studios today just announced that the stage you filmedDiscoveryin was renamed theStar Trek Stage . What was it like working there ?
Mary Wiseman : That is so sweet ! Oh , my gosh , it was outstanding . That was home for five seasons deserving of work . And the multitude are so nice . It ’s such a decent studio . I ’m going to overlook the sweetheart roses and all the dandy mass who process there . I missed Toronto already . Yeah , that ’s so nerveless that they named the microscope stage after us . How sweet .
I ’m such a large Tilly sports fan . And one of the thing I do it about Tilly is her versatility . Because she ’s at home on the bridge circuit . She ’s at home in engineering . She can go on off missions , like this week . And she also has a animation outside the ship in Starfleet Academy . Tilly is everywhere you require to be .
Mary Wiseman : Right ! I screw that too . It ’s been fun convey to jump around the ship and all the different little places . And then , having an engine room background , you really get to get into a flock of different place . you’re able to go to med bay tree , you’re able to end up really anywhere .

Mary Wiseman : So playfulness . I love make the foreign treatment . Getting to in the end walk into the prosthetics trailer was awesome . And yeah , have to go pip on position . Nan , I roll in the hay a woodland , and getting to shoot in that forest was so spectacularly beautiful , sullen and evocative . And , I entail , I just had an right-down flak . It was an awesome filming experience .
I was wondering if you were in a real wood . Not a soundstage made up like a forest with the AR paries .
Mary Wiseman : No , it ’s gorgeous , gorgeous forest in Ontario . It ’s really really endearing .
And you ’ve shot in Iceland , right ? Tilly and Saru exit on an outside mission in season 3 , and you get to go to a glacier . What was that like ?
Mary Wiseman : Oh my gosh , so cool . Republic of Iceland is just arresting . It is so otherworldly , because there ’s so many different biomes there and it ’s so influenced by volcanic activity . It ’s just a place I ’ve never see before and then getting to buck there , being on the black backbone of Vik and walk beside this beautiful black glacier . Yeah , it was breathtaking . And I spent a lot of clip really distressed about Doug Jones falling over .
Oh my god . Yeah , that ’s correct . Doug was in prosthetics . He was n’t wearing the kicking , though , was he ?
Mary Wiseman : Yeah , he was . He ’s amazing . He ’s amazing .
Tilly’s Friendship With Burnham & Possible Starfleet Academy Future
Tilly and Burnham have one of the all - time greatStar Trekfriendships . This is a franchise defined by friendly relationship , bulge out with Kirk and Spock . Tilly and Burnham are such a tremendous pair of female role who are genuine friends and compeer , even with their unlike ranks . Can you lecture a trivial second about Tilly and Michael ’s friendship , and is it the same or different from your friendship with Sonequa ?
Mary Wiseman : There are a lot of law of similarity , I think , because I wait up to Sonequa a lot , even though we ’re like the same age . Tilly admire Burnham a lot and and values her a lot . So there ’s a lot of correlation there . And I call up that they make each other laugh , and Sonequa and I certainly make each other laugh in real life . So all of that clobber about their friendship has been historically incredibly easy to act .
Last question before I rent you go : Is there anything you want to say about the possibility of Tilly come along in the next show , Starfleet Academy ?
Mary Wiseman : I do n’t know . I do n’t know .
