AlthoughSpiderman 3is the weakest of the trilogy, it’s still good enough to be a member of the club.
Man … where to bulge out on a review of a movie like this?Spider - Man 3has been one of the most wildly anticipated movie come out this class , so could it maybe live up to prospect ? ( By the way , this review is spoiler - free . )
My result would have to be : Almost .
While the floor ofSpiderman 3fits very nicely into an overall three - movie arc , there are problems with it that keep it from being as satisfying as it might have been . In the first film we suffer Peter Parker as the geeky , picked - on teenager and look out him evolve his newfound power , experiencing with him the initial giddiness and then the weight of responsibility that comes with those powers . In the 2nd film we meet a character who has come to terms with who he is , but struggles with the amount of province , difficulty and solitariness that arrive with his new life .
In this third flick , thing have finally amount around for both Peter Parker and his alter ego Spider - Man : He ’s got the miss , he has renown , is beloved by the city he ’s protect , and is even doing extremely well in college . Of of course , we know this ca n’t last . The flip side of all this is that Peter is starting to get a bit full of himself and is getting a superman of " Hollywood Ego Disease " , where he is beginning to get caught up in all the fame and worship .
Mary Jane , on the other hand is having a hard time : She gets fire from her latest play and is struggling within , feeling once again like she did when she hold out with her father due to the bad reviews of her performance and her being fire . Peter tries to soothe her , but although hecanrelate to what she ’s going through , he ’s so on top of the world right now that his cheery , " get back on the Equus caballus " advice ring hollow for her . The combination of her living head up downward and his heading up puts a melodic phrase on their relationship .
Then we have Flint Marko , a convict who has break away and is on the run , breaking into his ex - married woman ’s flat for see his sickish daughter . The only thing that weigh to him is curing her of whatever disease she has by finding the money to compensate for it . By his own actor’s line he ’s a skilful guy who ’s just had some tough lot . Flint trip into a decomposition bedroom just in sentence for an experiment to begin and is turned into the authoritative Spidey scoundrel : The Sandman , who can morph into different shape built from Amandine Aurore Lucie Dupin , and can also seem like his erstwhile self . Peter detect somehting about Flint Marko that put him on a commission to track Marko down .
There ’s also Eddie Brock , a new and aggressive lensman who shows up to adjudicate and usurp Peter as the premier photographer of Spider - Man , and he happens to be date yet another classic Spiderman amusing book fiber : Gwen Stacey . Oh , and did I note that Harry Osborn is in there , too ?
If this sound like a lot going on ( and I have n’t even mentioned Venom yet ! ) , well , it is . It ’s one of the things that wound this film … there are just too many character / story to cover in one picture show . You get the sense that they were all jammed in there because at the clip they thought this would be the net movie and that they want to please the fans by stick in all these reference character from the comic book . It ’s a imposing thought , but there ’s just too much go on and it finish up marginalizing the very fictitious character they desire to highlight .
Let me say that I sure enough didn’thateSpider - human race 3or even think it was fearsome , but there were some thing that restrain it from being gravid . The first job is what I refer above : there are just right smart too many independent characters in the film . The understanding for Eddie Brock ’s presence is of trend , Venom ( and I ’ll get to that aspect in brief ) , but Gwen Stacey and her dad could have been left out of this film very easily . I do n’t know if Gwen was in the script from daylight one , but I screw that Sam Raimi add together Venom to the story at the request of producer Avi Arad because the theatrical role is such a comical book fan favorite . I consider the original fib was meant to have only Harry Osborn as the new Green Goblin and Sandman as villain .

The trouble with adding Venom to the chronicle is that if he ’s going to be in there , he needs toreallybe in there , and that ’s one of the complaints from sports fan of the case : the full - gasconade Venom character appears in the film very shortly towards the end . Sam Raimi has state he was never a rooter of the character , and it ’s kind of obvious from the path Venom was used in the film . It ’s ironic , because the dour / malefic mood enhancing aspect of the character actually really fits the story and help move it forward . The problem is that they probably should have done anEmpire Strikes Backsort of ending where the big confrontation would be inSpider - Man 4 . alternatively , this felt like a typical Sci - Fi TV show episode where a vast job has been create during the first 55 minute of the show , you think " Wow , this must be a two - parter " , and it ends up being resolve in the last five mo of the episode .
Other things that bothered me during the film admit the transmutation conniption where Marko becomes Sandman : The scientists were supposedly doing a " dematerialization experimentation " and Marko got caught in it . There was nothing but sand in the pit , were they trying to dematerialise sand ? If so , it did n’t seem to act upon , because the George Sand was still Amandine Aurore Lucie Dupin . Point being what would have been the result of the experiment of Markohadn’tbeen there ? Very secret plan - devicey in my opinion . Another Sandman - colligate affair that really put out me a lot was how he moved through the city : giant flying sand cloud . I did n’t realize that moxie could , um … fly .
Then there ’s Venom . I break reading Spider - Man strip around the time Spidey first nonplus the suit so I ’m not attached to the character at all . What tease me however was that he happened to land from outer quad just a few feet by from Peter Parker . public lecture about your huge honkin ' coincidences ! Again , I think this was due to the juggling of so many patch stage : if they had limited things to few type they would have had time to enlarge on this more . Venom should have found it ’s agency to Peter after perhaps live a number of non - super - powered human hosts , or heck , maybe even a blackguard or something . Having it bring right next to Peter was a scrap much .
Ah , now to the biggie : Mary Jane vocalizing . Man oh man , what was Raimi think ? I actually cringed at the opening of this picture with her song act . I suppose the point of it was that she was not a full singer and that ’s why she was fuel , but gentleman , could n’t they have come up with something dissimilar ? And then there ’s the tantrum where she ’s dance with Harry Osborne in his kitchen … oy . I ’d love a director ’s cut of this film where any scenes in which M.J. is singing or saltation is removed . That would add at least half a star to my paygrade for this film .
Ok , enough about that … of course of instruction this movie will still make a gazillion clam ( they ’re already talking aboutSpider - Man 4 ) and the reason why is that if you take off out the material above it was still a play , action - packed film . watch Peter Parker go from surprised and well-chosen at how well his life is going to dark bad - male child mode was passing fun to watch ( until he gottoo"bad " ) . reckon a strutting , disco music - dancing Peter Parker was almost worth the price of admission . There were lots of fun bits in the film , including a setting with Miss Brant and J. Jonah Jameson that leave me in stitch and Bruce Campbell ’s cameo as a French maitre’d was priceless . Then there were the action / combat succession which were plentiful , long and amazing to see , especially on a giant IMAX screen . Folks , for big action movies like this , Ihighlyrecommend you go out of your way to catch them in IMAX . The sizing of the picture and the clarity make you feel like you ’re in the movie , even if you ’re sitting in the back course .
In the final analytic thinking , sure as shooting , there were things that annoyed me and even made me grovel , but overall I have to cutSpider - Man 3some slack and say it was pretty in effect overall . Not big , but good and well worth realise .
