Shoot ‘Em Up
A wild, crazy ride that knows what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything other than an insane, yes - shoot ‘em up.
Shoot ‘em Upis an unabashed action - fancy movie from director Michael Davis . His goal was to make something that was military action unleash on the screen , and as far as I ’m concerned he reach it . In spades .
Clive Owen act " Mr. Smith " , a cultivated carrot - chew bystander of an undertake murder of a fraught woman , who turn out to be , well … unnerving would be too insidious a word to describe him as the hero of the film . From the first vista it ’s obvious that this will be a highly stylized movie , with an uttermost close up of Owen that pulls back to reveal him chomping on a carrot . It seems that cultivated carrot are his collation of choice ( with conspicuous Bugs Bunny reference book later on ) as well as an impromptu weapon . Something I must take I had n’t seen before . Not just once , Owen use a cultivated carrot as a lethal weapon in the film , to the effect of much witticism .
There ’s really not a whole heck of a draw to the plot , it ’s basically just a gimmick to allow one madly over the top natural process sequence after another .
He rescue the babe ( actually , he delivers the baby first - in the middle of a gun battle ) and then go on to discover someone to at least temporarily care for and feed it , eventually settle on a wet hooker ( play by Monica Belluci ) . From this breaker point on all three of them are on the run from a crew led by the first-rate fun to look out Paul Giamatti as the scoundrel . Giamatti plays a villain who fancies himself as super - intelligent ( and he IS quite impertinent ) , cool and compile , and he is repeatedly drive margin call from his wife via cellular telephone telephone , who is apparently clueless that he is an assassin .
Owen bring his quiet intensity to the role as a guy who is unstoppable in a fervor fight and is ostensibly demented at the world . In a room he reminded me of the Michael Douglas theatrical role in Falling Down who just go over the boundary when face with casual vexation ( drivers change lane without bespeak , masses who slurp their coffee , etc . ) . Monica Belluci plays a nice support role in the cinema and becomes less of a impersonation as the floor move along .
But what this movie is really about is action mechanism . Action and bullet train . Action and bullets and ridiculous stunt . These it delivers in spades , eliciting cheers and express mirth from the interview at the screening I attended throughout the course of the film . I really do n’t desire to spoil the fun , but you need to know that this movie is rated gas constant for a damn good reasonableness . I ’m jolly certain I have n’t ever seen a motion-picture show with the body count this one has .
Even within the context of this movie there were at least a couple of sequences that were SO over the top that they made me tramp my eyes . One succession in particular has the car Owen is driving in a head on hit with a caravan . You wo n’t believe how he survives it . On the other deal I do n’t intend I ’ve ever encounter a skydive shootout , or carrot used in such a tearing style . :-)
WhileShoot ‘em Upwon’t appeal to everyone , I thinks folks who are into action mechanism films will see it and say that it ’s whatLive Free and Die Hardshould have been . For those multitude bewail the fact thatDie Hard 4.0didn’t get an R evaluation , cheer up , germinate ‘em Upwill make up for it .
