I knew going in thatLegionwas going to be … odd . A movie where an holy person come to earth , is tire some sort of electronic electrical shock collar and apply machine triggerman was stick to to be a morsel , shall we say , unlawful .
Paul Bettany stars as the Angelica Archangelica Michael , who all of a sudden appears on Earth on December 23rd in Los Angeles . His jolt leash ( for lack of a better term , I do n’t sleep with what its social function was ) fall off his neck and he summarily cut off his angelic wing ( yes , it hurt ) .
He site a vast armory rather rapidly and loads up with all kinds of semi - automatic good . When he is hold back by a couple of LA constabulary officers , he disarms one and hold in him hostage while the other turns into what seems to be some demonic adaptation of the other officer . Michael gets aside and drives off in the bull car .
Meanwhile in the California desert in a trailer park call Paradise Falls ( paradisefalls , get it ? ) we meet a young man scream Jeep Hanson ( Lucas Black ) and a meaning young noblewoman named Charlie ( played by Adrianne Palicki ) . The father is unnamed , it ’s not Jeep - who is the proverbial nice guy who want to take care of her . Of naturally it ’s the honest-to-god " I wish you as a admirer " from her end .
Their first clue that something is n’t quite right is when a gracious sometime madam do into the diner and soon starts swear like a Marine , spout sharpen tooth , starts attacking the customers and starts literally mount the walls . In the diner we have a semi - former yuppie duad and their slutty dressing recent teenage girl , Tyrese Gibson ( who give probably the practiced carrying into action in the film ) as a guy just passing through , Dennis Quaid as the possessor of the blank space ( he ’s Jeep ’s Father of the Church ) and Charles S. Dutton as the only religious guy in the station .
finally Michael shows up and build up them all and makes it clean he ’s there to protect Charlie and the unborn child . It seems that God is feed up with the human airstream ( again ) and instead of a flood he ’s transport hordes of what can only in this film be call angels to wipe out world . It seems that while God has fall behind faith in humankind , Michael has n’t , and the baby that Charlie is dribble is the only chance at salvation for mankind . The job is that the holy man have been task with killing the small fry .
We ’re given some nerveless machine gun action and a pair of other scenes that are coolheaded where our fearless heroes seek to keep the " angels " at bay . Also , when another angel comes on the scene , he looks somewhat nerveless in all his winged resplendency and with medieval - looking habiliment / armor and arm , giving one the thought thatThormight really work on screen .
out of doors of that however , the quote that keep coming to mind for me was the line spoken at the end ofStar Trek Vby Bill Shatner as Captain Kirk:“What does God demand with a starship?“What was up with some form of electronic collar on angels ? Why did they want machine guns ? Why did one " angel " take care like a demon flat out of blaze , while others retained their body and others apparantly possessed human organic structure ? If they were genuinely angel , why could they be killed with gunfire ?

Not enough questions for you ? How about who exactly is this youngster ? bear on Christmas , leads one to take for granted it ’s the return of Christ - but then why would God want to KILL it ( nevermind that he ’s not supposed to return as an babe ) ? Why do the saint look unholy ? Why would God do this when he know all of history before it occur instead of allowing Revelation to happen ?
And there are even more unanswered questions than those …
Really this is about one pace removed from a zombie moving-picture show , get dressed up to be something " deeper . " I ’d say if you ’re interested , wait for the DVD .
