Screen Rant ’s Vic Holtreman reviewsLegend of the Guardians : The Owls of Ga’Hoole
Legend of the Guardians : The Owls of Ga’Hooleis a gorgeous 3D , CGI feast for the heart with a story that you ’ll have seen many multiplication before . It has your young , inexperienced ( eventual ) hero , initially full of ego dubiousness ; a pending encroachment from a dark , powerful enemy army ; and a weapon that is ostensibly insufferable to fight ( does that sound even mistily intimate yet ? ) .
That ’s really your plot in a nutshell . I wo n’t bother naming the characters because frankly , they did n’t really record with me . You ’ve got your " unspoilt son " owl who capture the attention of mama and dad and his envious crony . There ’s also a wide - eyed little baby baby owl who loves to listen the write up of the Guardians - wise and fearless warrior owls who survive long ago and defend the … townsfolk ( townsowls ? ) .
The brothers are kidnapped and taken to the land where the vicious hooter overlord is ramp up a artillery that somehow magically captures owl and generate them helpless . One of the issues with this film is that the weapon system is a complete closed book - it want flyspeck slight piece of metallic element to function , but beyond that it ’s quite literally a plot of land equipment .
While captured , the good comrade vow to bunk while the green-eyed pal finally finds the approval he ’s been craving all these years - he ’s cultivate as one of the elect warrior class and has no job going over to the dark side ( * cough * ) .
Eventually our torpedo makes the perilous journeying to receive the fabled Guardians , where he get wind to fly and fight down like an owl Ninja . There are one C of captured and enslaved owls being declare by the malign overlord owl , so this lead to the inevitable ( and epic ) net battle . Will good victory over evil ? ( Rhetorical question with an obvious answer ) .
WhereLegends of the Guardiansreally shines is in the animation . It is simply breathtaking - the level of quality , the move of the bird of night , the conception of their globe - everything is quite beautiful and torturously elaborated . The part actor do a estimable job , with some engaging and comic character and accents that add a moment of spell to them ( for US interview , anyway ) . The 3-D is used to great effect and was very well done - not too obvious , but not so subtle that you ’ll be left call for what was the point .
Where it is n’t so strong is in the history - which while fairly introductory at its core , has a level of complexness in the details that untried kids will probably get lost . On the other manus , child will plausibly be so mesmerized with the look of the film that they wo n’t mind too much . And mouth of young consultation members , for a PG animated movie some of the struggle scenes are passably intense .
In the end , I ’d say this is worth checking out if you ’re a fan of fine CGI animation and are curious what an animated , PG - rat picture from Zack Snyder ( 300 , Watchmen ) might be like .
