Dream Houseis a difficult movie to review - or even describe - without break too many twists and turns of the plot of ground . The film stars Daniel Craig ( Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ) as a author who settles into a quaint plate with his married woman ( Rachel Weisz ) and two daughters , only to pick up that their sign of the zodiac was the scene of a horrific offence . When strange things commence give-up the ghost swelling in the night , the husband starts to uncover a connection to the tragic murders - but only the pretty neighbour ( Naomi Watts ) seems to bang what ’s go on for certain .
Dream Housewas directed by Jim Sheridan , the man behind such groovy films asMy Left FootandThe Boxer , as well as so - so films likeBrothersandGet Rich or Die Trying . Sheridan is a skilled theater director ( even when he ’s working with half - bake cloth ) so technically speaking , Dream Houseis visually sound and high textured in its disparity between the quick hue and glows of a family home , full of lovemaking , and the rough , puritanic - tinted , snow - ride world outside that abode - or , at time , the grit and filth of habitation that have been brim over with rot and desperation .
The other strength of the celluloid is its cast . Craig , Weisz and Watts are all skilled actors and keep a lot of the more silly aspects of the story ( more on that subsequently ) ground in believable performances . Craig - often Isidor Feinstein Stone - faced and dingy - display some warmth and smiles in his role as a loving father , though he make ample sentence to I. F. Stone - boldness it as well . Weisz is good as a detached - gamy married woman and female parent ; she makes her character stomach out as a unique and fully - take shape person , while Watts is given a harder task , play a polar character that has to be balanced just right to be credible at all . Wattsalmostpulls of that reconciliation act , but not quite . Guys like Elias Koteas and Marton Csokas are swell character actors - though they ’re given little to forge with here .
What knocksDream House- a movie which has so much potentiality on paper - right off the rail is the script by David Loucka , the author of not - so - great films likeEddie , The Dream Team , andBorderline . Dream Houseis a story that seems like a nerveless idea in theory , but does n’t quite work when put onscreen . It ’s highly derivative of other film ( two in particular - scroll down for that soft mollycoddler ) and finally gets lost in its own aspiration - which pretty much amount to throwing several " winding " into the story that are meant to be shameful or cagey when they ’re really just clichéd , confusing and often obvious .
This is also a film that changes gears very drastically in its first , 2nd , and 3rd acts , and subsequently feels disjointed and occasional , rather than constituent and cohesive . There are also a truckload of legitimate flaws , and plot golf hole so widely they are nearly impossible not to strike into . On the whole , the poor script reducesDream Houseto a movie that is hard to get into - and stay into - despite the talented role player and film director working to keep it ground and piquant .

Basically , the moving picture is a mashup of plot elements " borrowed " from bothFight ClubandGhost , but the mixture ensue in something that is far less sensible or believable . A fortune of the themes about memory and family ( and the power of that make out James Bond ) are very hefty and resonating ones , so its a shame they get lessen by all the chaos and confusion of the patchwork plot .

Certain viewers may watchDream Houseand be vibrate by the shifting , uncertain nature of its plot of ground ( if they can avoid scrutinizing it and just brush off the yaw holes ) . As stated , the celluloid is well - constructed and well - acted , so it ’s not a total nightmare . However , like the strangest of dreams , watching this movie will will you feeling muddled and pretty upset about the experience .
